Code Of Ethics

Preamble

The Association of Financial Advisers (Singapore) is dedicated to setting and promoting excellence for professionals in financial advisory services. In fulfillment of this mission, the Association has adopted this Code of Ethics.

This Code of Ethics are general standards that shall apply to all categories of membership and their representatives. Every member shall conform to the general standards set out in this Code in their activities and conduct. All members shall always place the best interest of their clients above their own direct or indirect interests.

1. Integrity

Members shall observe high standards of honesty and integrity in conducting their financial planning business and in the provision of financial advisory services.

2. Disclosure

Members shall disclose to the client any material limitation on their ability to provide objective financial advisory services.

3. Competence

Members shall provide competent financial advisory services and maintain the necessary knowledge and skill to continue to do so in those areas in which the Member is engaged.

4. Fairness

Members shall perform services in a manner that respects the interests of all those he/she serves, including clients, principals, partners, employees and employers. A member shall disclose conflicts of interest in providing such services.

5. Diligence

Members shall act with patience, timeliness and consistency in the provision of financial advisory profession.

6. Professionalism

Members shall ensure their conduct does not bring discredit to the financial advisory profession.

7. Confidentiality

Members shall not disclose any confidential information without the specific consent of the provider of that information unless compelled to by law or as required to fulfill their legal obligations

8. Compliance

Members must maintain knowledge of and comply with the Constitution of the Association, Code of Ethics and all applicable laws, rules and regulations of any government, governmental agency, regulatory organization, licensing agency or professional association governing the members’ professional activities.
